Located on the Tsurugawa 213,Kunisaki city ,Oita prefecture,Sakurahatiman-jinja both reflects and inspires Kunisaki City.It was built to worship the spirit of Usa Shrine and there are many old trees inside the Jinja ,with luxuriant foliage,it creates a sense of mystery.In 1942,It was designated the natural monuments of Oita prefecture.
The visiting method of the Jinja
There is a certain sequence to visit Sakurahatiman-jinja, followed by "washing hands" “donating money””shaking off the bell” and “ two nods-two claps-one nod”. Before the visit, you must wash your hands and rinse your mouth with water. Sprinkling water on the hands means removing the worldly dirt. Then go to "Hall" and invest coins into the merit box ahead. A large bell is hung above the merit box. After donating the incense, the worshiper should use the rope tied to the bell to shake off the bell and inform the deity of his arrival. After completing these procedures , pray to the gods twice, clap hands twice, and then pray once again.

Lottery Divination
There are many mascots in the shrine, such as:”ema”, “mamori”.And they can be used for divination, wishing fortune, and for blessings. “ema” was a kind of wooden board painted with horses where some wishing or votive words,and was enshrined in the jinja. It is very beautiful here, in spring The cherry blossoms and attracts many tourists to visit, in summer, with luxuriant foliage,It is very cool and comfortable. Visiting the temple is a wonderful experience all year round however, the best time would be during spring. Summer is also a wonderful time to visit as there are many festivals and you can have a peaceful day at the temple while relaxing under the trees of the temple. Winter and Fall may not be an ideal time to visit as Japan has cold winters but, seeing the snow from the temple is a one-of-a-kind experience.
